This paper is a critical survey concerning Herbert Illig's declaration, that in the historiography, the 7th, 8th and 9th centuries are fictitious, in describing astronomy. This statement has been published in his book ``Das erfundene Mittelalter. Die grösste Zeitfälschung der Ge\-schichte''. M. Trömel disproved this maintenance using four sources: (1) ``Annales Regni Francorum'', (2) ``Anonymi Vita Hludovici Imperatoris'', (3) ``Einhardi Vita Karoli Magni'', (4) ``Nithardi Historiarum Libri IIII''. He proved, by means of retrocalculations, that there were e.g.: Jupiters's occultation by the Moon, on the 31st January 807, two eclipses of the Moon, on the 2nd September 806, and on the 22nd August 807, more eclipses of the Sun and the Moon, falling of the meteorites, or appearances of comets, as well, which have been mentioned as false. Some forecasts concerning astrology have been added. ``The question of invented centuries stepped, on the contrary, a little into the background'', wrote humbly the author of this paper.
