The author studies parametric functionals. First he introduces a so called \(F\)-mean curvature. Next, extremals of parametric functionals are described as surfaces with prescribed \(F\)-mean curvature. He obtains a differential equation for arbitrary immersions which is applied to surfaces of vanishing and prescribed \(F\)-mean curvature.
