This paper contains two applications of a method of J. Esterle to derive Wiener's theorem for \(L^1(\mathbb{R})\) by using analytic semigroups. The first application concerns spectral synthesis of points on \(\mathbb{R}\), and the second one a Wiener-type theorem for Bessel-Kingman hypergroups. This Wiener theorem can obviously be obtained for much larger classes of Sturm-Liouville hypergroups in the same way by using Gaussian semigroups on these hypergroups.
