A train model (Q1866874)

The author proposes a model of train in the form of a flexible inextensible thread moving in the neighborhood of a curve, modelling the railtrack, under the action of the potential and dissipative forces. The lateral deviations of the train are determined when the train begins to turn. The deviations are accompanied by the wave perturbations of the rails. It is shown that the dynamical lateral loadings and the rails wear may be diminished by an optimal choice of the curvature of the rail track.
