It is well known how to construct multiresolution analyses (MRA) and wavelets via quadrature mirror filters. In the present paper, this is extended to a construction of wavelets which are not associated with an MRA (they are associated to certain generalized MRA's). As an example it is proved how one, for an arbitrarily large interval \(I\), can construct a non-MRA wavelet whose Fourier transform is \(C^\infty\) on \(I\).
