The article under review studies Gorenstein liaison which is a generalization of ordinary liaison using complete intersections and seems to work better for varieties of codimension at least three (in codimension 2, both these notions coincide). There are now excellent sources to look this new notion up [see \textit{J. C. Migliore}, ``Introduction to liaison theory and deficiency modules'' (1998; Zbl 0921.14033) and \textit{J. C. Migliore} and \textit{U. Nagel}, Rend. Semin. Mat. Torino 59, No.~2, 59--126 (2001; Zbl 1172.13305)]. There are several new difficulties arising in higher codimensions and there are many attempts to see which of the properties are carried over from the codimension 2 case. The article under review gives a counterexample to a question of Hartshorne illustrating once again that the notion of `Lazarsfeld-Rao property' need to be modified further to make it work in higher codimension.
