The notion of scalar asymptotic derivative of a function along a set is introduced and studied in connection with the concept of scalar derivatives and by a duality approach. Then the authors obtain several fixed point theorems. The applications concern surjectivity theorems, variational inequalities, complementarity problems and integral equations.
