Discussions around Voiculescu's free entropies. (Q1869990)

In the one-dimensional case Voiculescu's microstate entropy \(\chi\) and dynamical free entropy \(\chi^*\) are known to coincide. In the higher dimensional case this is an important open problem. The authors continue their work [Ann. Probab. 29, 1205--1261 (2001; Zbl 1022.60026)], where they introduced four further free entropies \(\underline{\chi}\) (related to \(\chi\)), \(\underline{\chi}^*\) (related to \(\chi^*\)), \(\chi_G^*\) (a Gaussian perturbation of \(\chi^*\)) and \(-\bar{I}_m\), and where they derived estimates among them. In the present article they derive results which, among others, strongly support the believe that \(\chi_G^*=-\bar{I}_m\). They discuss the one-dimensional case in which all six entropies turn out to coincide.
