Dynamic behaviour of saturated soils and rocks is of high interest in civil engineering. The present paper is the first part of a study devoted to this subject. The evolution equations are derived together with the proof of existence of two coupled fields in fully saturated porous media. The novelty of this approach lies in the fact that it takes into account the compression of solid grains, the compression of the pore water, the deformation of the solid skeleton and the spatial damping. Closed-form expressions for propagation velocity and for the damping coefficient are derived.
