Congruence formulae (modulo two) are discussed and obtained for stable maps \(f:M^2 \to \mathbb R^n\), \(1 \leq n \leq 4\), relating the Euler characteristic of the surface \(M^2\) to the singularities of the map \(f\) (critical points, double curves, Whitney umbrella points etc.).
