The paper is devoted to the presentation of life and educational and professional activity of John Wilder Tukey (1915-2000) -- chemist, topologist, educator, consultant, information scientist, researcher, statistician, data analyst, executive. Tukey's career is traced chronologically and then specific areas in which he had substantial impact are discussed. In appendices one finds among others lists of Tukey's academic honors, Ph.D. students as well as some of his sayings.
