The author presents a generalization of a well-known fixed point theorem due to \textit{D. W. Boyd} and \textit{J. S. Wong} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 20, 458--464 (1969; Zbl 0175.44903)]. Some improvements of this theorem are also provided.
