The biplanes \((v,v,k,k,2)\) are symmetric designs of great interest and they are known to exist for only a few values of \(v\) \((v=1+{k\choose 2})\). One of these values is \(v=56\), and the number of non-isomorphic biplanes on 56 points is not known. The authors use coding theory to construct a new biplane from the known quasi-symmetric biplane on 56 points; their new biplane is also quasi-symmetric.
