A computational approach to solving a problem in electroencephalography is presented, with the objective of computing the electric potential throughout the entire head. A number of three-dimensional conservative difference schemes are considered, and in each case an error estimate is given, based on assumptions made on surface locations with respect to the grid. These assumptions being necessary due to uncertainty about the actual discontinuity surfaces that are involved. Some applications are made that allow the results to be assessed when the surfaces involved do not satisfy the assumptions made in the models.
