The author gives an overview of recent developments in the general theory of moving frames. He defines a moving frame as a smooth \(G\)-equivariant map \(M\to G\), where \(G\) is a Lie group acting smoothly on a manifold \(M\). After addressing the problem of local existence he discusses two methods for computing differential invariants: by normalization and by invariant differentiation of lower order invariants. The method is illustrated using the simple example of curves in the Euclidean plane; for details of the theory and applications the reader is referred to the impressive list of references.
