The idea is to combine the application of rank statistics and M-evaluations (generalized maximum likelihood evaluations) for the construction of robust nonlinear filtering algorithms of either separate images or a sequence of video images. The proposed cascade RM-filter includes two MMKNN filters, which suppress pulse noises and preserve fine details of an image, and an M-filter, which suppresses multiplicative distortions.
