The solutions of the difference equation \(x(n+1)=ax(n)+ bx(n-1)-x^2(n-1)\) are considered as the dynamics of the map \((x,y)\mapsto (y,ay+bx-x^2)\). The bifurcations of periodic points are studied, and the existence of chaos is proved. Numerical examples are given.
