A representation of the characteristic polynomial of a multivariable system which does not contain transfer function matrices of either the plant or the controller is developed. An expression for the total number of the independent closed-loop contours of a multivariable system is also derived. A method is proposed for the synthesis of physically realizable autonomous or connected control for multivariable plants on the basis of performance requirements on the closed-loop processes.
