The paper is concerned with the elastic contact including sliding. Restricting to the two-dimensional problem and using a compliance model after \textit{J. T. Oden} and \textit{J. A. C. Martins} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 11, 407--428 (1987; Zbl 0679.73050)], the authors look for sufficient conditions for nonuniqueness of the solution of the corresponding variational formulation. Especially, they study the links between the existence of infinitely many solutions of the problem and a specific eigenvalue problem for the interface parameters. Based on the finite element discretisation with triangular elements, some numerical experiments are carried out.
