The authors consider the traffic flow control problem. A traffic flow control system at crossroads is often modeled as an adaptive queueing system whose input flow consists in the arriving automobiles, the server is a traffic light, and the adaptation period is the duration of the yellow signal. A mathematical model is built where some additional real factors such as the speed of automobiles during a green signal, concurrent movement of several automobiles at a crossroad, and the behavior of the automobiles during a yellow signal are considered. These considerations make the model more interesting. An adaptive algorithm for the traffic flow control is developed. Moreover, the stationary behavior of the system is also investigated.
