The authors construct a rather simplified model (they call it a caricature) for something resembling a crystal interacting with a radiation field. This model has two bands of continuous spectrum and the particles can pass from the upper to the lower band by emitting a photon, the coupling between states in the two bands being of Friedrichs type. By analytically continuing the resolvent under convenient regularity and analyticity conditions, they find that for sufficiently weak coupling it has a curve-type singularity in the lower half plane which is a deformation of the upper band spectral cut. They show that for a fixed energy the decay is approximately exponential at intermediate times while the tail has a power-like behaviour.
