The authors correct a wrong statement in their earlier paper [Acta Math. 186, No. 2, 155--217 (2001; Zbl 1022.11024)] for the location of eigenvalues of the Hecke operators \(U_p\). However, the main results of the original paper remain qualitatively the same, but the number of eigenvalues which are proved unstable is reduced.
