The authors investigate the vertex operator realizations of toroidal Lie algebras in a unified manner. These representations are studied as modules for the Virasoro-toroidal Lie algebras. For any Virasoro-toroidal Lie algebra of type one, the authors prove the irreducibility of certain vertex operator representations.
