An M/G/1 queueing system with an optional service channel is studied. A unit may depart from the system either after first essential service with probability \((1-\theta)\) or may then immediately go for a second phase of service with probability \(\theta\). The steady state queue size distribution at a random epoch is found, as well as the probability generating function of the departure point queue size distribution. The stochastic decomposition property for these distributions is proved.
