The authors consider the second-order nonlinear difference equation \[ \Delta (p_n(\Delta x_n)^{\gamma}) + q_nx_{n-\sigma}^{\beta} = 0, \quad n = 0,1,2,\ldots \] New criteria for the equation to be oscillatory are obtained. The Riccati transformation technique is applied.
