Different graphical tools for the exploration of sample distributions are described: empirical distribution functions (cumulative curves), Lorenz curves, Q-Q and P-P plots, and histograms. The performance of these plots is compared on data on demographic characteristics of 1011 Northwest England wards. Interactive visualization techniques via dynamically linked histograms and use of geographic maps for data representation are described.
