The so-called game of life (GL) is a cellular automaton comprising a 2-D array of cells which are either in the sate 1 (live) or in the state 0 (dead), which simulates an ecological system in which life forms repeat the process of birth and seath. In the present paper, one proposes a 8-state asynchronous GL-like cellular automaton which achieves reliable computation when the update of cells is synchronous or asynchronous. Following the description of the model, a careful analysis of the asynchronous game of life is provided, and then comes a concluding discussion.
