The author determines the homotopy type of the subspace consisting of all 2-jets of smooth germs, which are regular or have singularities with Boardman symbol (1,0). This is aimed at classifying smooth maps having only such singularities by the homotopy principle due to \textit{A. Du Plessis} [Comment. Math. Helv. 50, 363--382 (1975; Zbl 0313.58010)] and \textit{M. Gromov} [Math. USSR, Izv. 3, 671--694 (1969), translation from Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Ser. Mat. 33, 707--734 (1969; Zbl 0197.20404)]. Some interesting applications concerning the existence and non-existence of such regular maps are given.
