    The classical Absolute Rate Theory (ART) developed in the beginning of the 20th century tried to explain the kinetics of adsorption in real adsorption systems. Yes, the energetic heterogeneity of the actual solid surfaces was the most important factor, which was not fully examined. A new approach, the Statistical Rate Theory (SRT) explained theoretically a broad number of adsorption systems. These results are reviewed in the present work. In the second paragraph we are introduced to the classical ART description of kinetics. The applications of the SRT approach apply to: (a) the description of the kinetics of adsorption on energetically homogeneous solid surfaces. (b) the kinetics of multi-site-occupancy adsorption. (c) the description of the equilibria of gas adsorption on energetically homogeneous solid surfaces. (d) the kinetics of adsorption on heterogeneous solid surfaces. (e) the kinetics of multi-site-occupancy adsorption on energetically heterogeneous solid surfaces. (f) studies of the kinetics of thermodesorption. Finally, this very interesting paper concludes with a comparison of the two approaches (ART and SRT) applied to the kinetics of thermodesorption and the perspectives the of new approach.
