The author gives a short and elegant proof of a result due to \textit{J. Zhang} [Linear Algebra Appl. 186, 97-115 (1993; Zbl 0769.41006)], stating that orthonormal polynomials with asymptotically periodic recurrence coefficients exhibit uniform subexponential growth on the entire support of the orthogonalizing measure. The proof is based on estimates involving the Christoffel-Darboux identity.
