We reexamine Kalmbach outer measures on an orthomodular lattice by weakening the notion of measurability with respect to such a functional thereby widening the class of measurable elements. These investigations are carried out based on a study of valuations and subadditive functionals on an orthomodular lattice. We then apply these results to obtain a measure-theoretic characterization of the traces on certain JBW- algebras.
