The class of well-posed systems is defined. It is more general than the class of Pritchard-Salamon systems. It turns out that any closed-loop system corresponding to a well-posed system is again well-posed. The state-estimation technique, the classical construction of feedback/estimators, and the state-space realizations for a doubly coprime factorization are extended from finite-dimensional systems to the well-posed ones.
