The author associates certain subshifts of finite type to systems arising from the action of a Cartan subgroup of a \(p\)-adic semisimple Chevalley group on compact quotient spaces \(\Gamma \setminus G\), using affine Bruhat-Tits buildings. These are then used to study the resulting dynamical systems.
