The solutions of the following generalized functional equation \[ \begin{multlined} G(x)+(1-x)^\alpha F_1 (u/(1-x))+(1-x)^\beta F_2 (u/(1-x))=\\ =G(u)+(1-u)^\alpha F_1 (x/(1-u))+(1-u)^\beta F_2 (x/(1-u)),\end{multlined} \] are given under certain regularity conditions. This functional equation arises in the characterization of certain measures of information.
