Recently many papers deal with fuzzy groups [cf. e.g. \textit{M. Asaad}, Fuzzy Sets Syst. 39, 323-328 (1991; Zbl 0718.20036); \textit{N. Kuroki}, Inf. Sci. 60, 247-259 (1992; Zbl 0747.20038); \textit{J.-G. Kim}, J. Fuzzy Math. 2, 913-921 (1994; Zbl 0822.20067)]. The author introduces a new notion of level subgroup and reproves diverse properties of fuzzy groups. The main result concerns the kernel and fuzzy kernel of a group homomorphism.
