Best packing of rods into boxes (Q1896361)

The author determines the maximum number of aligned \(1\times 1\times\cdots\times 1\times n\)-rods that fit in a \(a_1\times\cdots\times a_d\)-box, i.e. the uncovered volume in an optimal packing of \(1\times 1\times\cdots\times 1\times n\)-boxes in a \(a_1\times\cdots\times a_d\)-box under the condition that the sides of the small boxes are parallel to the sides of the big box.
