An approximate theory for velocity profiles in the near wake of a flat plate (Q1897721)

The investigation deals with the flow properties near the trailing edge of a flat plate assuming that the flow is laminar and that the fluid is incompressible. Specifically, a correction to the classical Goldstein solution for the near wake is developed. To this end higher approximations to the flat plate drag are incorporated into the boundary conditions to be satisfied by the solution of the boundary layer equations. The modified wake profiles are found to be in good agreement with experimental data.
