The authors discuss the construction of 2-transitive symmetric designs from their derived or residual designs by using their associated linear codes. In particular, they construct the Higman design (with parameters \((176, 50, 14))\) as the design supported by the minimum weight codewords in the extended binary code of certain designs invariant under the group \(\text{P}\Sigma\text{U}(3, 25)\).
