The author revisits a result concerning the representation of the elasticity 4-tensor for isotropic materials. He establishes necessary and sufficient conditions for a 4-tensor with the major symmetry and both minor symmetries to be isotropic. This is an elegant proof; however, the paper would have been more complete if the author had summarized other recent proofs.
