The authors study the Cholesky factorization of bi-infinite and semi- infinite matrices. They consider the asymptotic behavior of the lower triangular Cholesky factor of a matrix \(A\) and they apply these results to study the limiting profile of orthogonal splines obtained by orthogonalizing a large set of \(B\)-splines.
