The paper deals with the model equation \(T_t = \Delta T + \gamma(T) |E|^2\), where \(T\) is the temperature, \(\gamma (T)\) the thermal absorptivity, and \(|E|\) the amplitude of the electric field, which is supposed to depend exponentially on the spatial variables (in two or three dimensions). The discretization is done by means of a variant of the boundary element method, called the dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM). The results of various numerical experiments (but no mathematical theorems) are presented.
