The aim of the paper is to identify and define a class of intelligent control systems on the basis of traditional simulators in automatic control theory. The paper presents principles for the structural organization of automatic control systems with different degrees of intelligence. New concepts of intelligence, intelligence in the small and intelligence in the large, are introduced to make it possible to improve the quality of the dynamic characteristics of previously designed systems and to enlarge their functional potential, particularly under conditions of complex or undefined environments. The paper presents a detailed evaluation of these principles and concepts for the intelligent system development.
