In 1987, \textit{L.-F. Tam} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 36, No. 1, 79-89 (1987; Zbl 0678.49037); Variational methods for free surface interfaces, Proc. Conf., Menlo Park/ Calif. 1985, 99-108 (1987; Zbl 0711.49060)]\ proved that the solution of the capillary surface equation without gravity over an infinite strip must be a rigid rotation of a cylinder. Here we give a simple proof for Tam's theorem and generalize his result.
