The authors show that in the stream function formulation the artificial density is not equivalent to the artificial viscosity and cannot be used. At the same time, a correct expression for the artificial viscosity in the stream function method is derived. A numerical result demonstrates that the range of the Mach numbers computed by the proposed approach can be extended, and the shock location is close to experimental results.
