The introduction of a discrete smooth interpolation (DSI) technique by \textit{J. L. Mallet} [Comput.-Aided Des. 24, No. 4, 178-191 (1992; Zbl 0808.65005)] has opened up a fairly wide array of applications for polyhedral modelling. A numerical scheme is proposed by the author as an alternative to the local DSI equation. Since it does not rely on the smoothness criteria to be in a linear least squares form, it allows for a somewhat wider variety of smoothness constraints.
