In [The geometry of geodesics (1955; Zbl 0112.37002)] \textit{H. Busemann} had introduced a metric on the isometry group of a metric space and had demonstrated that the isometry group of a finitely compact metric space is a finitely compact topological group. In the present article we obtain similar results for certain mapping spaces with the Busemann metric.
