Homomorphism and sigma polynomials (Q1902912)

A relationship is established between two graph polynomials, each of which is closely related to the chromatic polynomial. These two polynomials were presented in [\textit{R. A. Bari}, Homomorphism polynomials and graphs, J. Comb. Inf. Syst. Sci. 7, No. 1, 56-64 (1982; Zbl 0494.05024)] and [\textit{R. Korfhage}, \(\sigma\)-polynomials and graph coloring, J. Comb. Theory, Ser. B 24, 137-153 (1977)]. By means of this relationship the author converts results from the literature about each of these two graph polynomials into results about the other one.
