Some structural properties of nonlinear, hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, admitting a strict Riemann invariant, are compared with those systems admitting an entropy density flux pair. The effect of changes of variables and entropy conditions for discontinuities in the form of entropy inequalities are investigated.
