Finite element techniques have been used to calculate the relative Young's modulus, relative Poisson's ratio and the stress concentration factor for plates perforated with cusp-shaped holes. The cusps, aligned so that a) the points of the cusps were parallel to the axes of the system and b) the points were at \(45^\circ\) to the axes, were arranged in rectangular and diagonal arrays. The results show similarities of form between many of the results for the cusps and for the equivalent results for circular holes. The importance of the parallel ligament efficiency when comparing the properties of porous bodies is pointed out.
