The paper deals with linear stochastic systems with observations which are noise corrupted for a fixed percentage of time and pure noise for the remaining time. The problem is to suitably position the observation intervals in order to maximize the filtering error covariance. As a result an upper bound for the deterioration in filtering precision is obtained. An example dealing with space objects re-entry is finally provided.
